For the Joy Set Before Him:
Jesus submitted to His own torture and death, knowing that there was a joy on the other side of the pain and agony—a people He would call His own: His bride, the church.
Hebrews 12:1-2 Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
Joseph, sold into slavery by his brothers, proclaimed to them in Genesis 50 “…as for you, you meant evil against me; but God meant it for good, in order to bring it about as it is this day, to save many people alive.” In the same way, the sovereign God of the Universe used the wicked desires and sin of evil men, like Pontius Pilate and the Pharisees, to bring about the simultaneous murder of His son Jesus and the once-for-all sacrifice that sets captive souls free. In perfect obedience, Jesus submitted to His own torture and death, knowing that there was a joy on the other side of the pain and agony—a people He would call His own: His bride, the church.
