  1. Wedding vows
  2. Debt repayment
  3. Returning borrowed stuff
  4. Campaign promises
  5. Ending destructive behaviors
  6. Event attendance

Why the title Promise Made, Promise Kept?

Jesus is the only One who keeps promises perfectly!

How to guarantee your start up organization will fail:

STEP 1 - Have a founder who makes outlandish claims about Himself and the future.

He predicted His own cause of death and promised to rise from it 3 days later!

Matthew 20:17-19 NKJV Now Jesus, going up to Jerusalem, took the twelve disciples aside on the road and said to them, 18 "Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be betrayed to the chief priests and to the scribes; and they will condemn Him to death, 19 and deliver Him to the Gentiles to mock and to scourge and to crucify. And the third day He will rise again."

STEP 2 - Draft followers who, after three years of on the job training, exhibit three not so endearing qualities.

  • They were Clueless

Matthew 27:62-63 NKJV On the next day, which followed the Day of Preparation, the chief priests and Pharisees gathered together to Pilate, 63 saying, "Sir, we remember, while He was still alive, how that deceiver said, 'After three days I will rise.'

  • They were Faithless

Luke 24:1-11 NKJV Now on the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they, and certain other women with them, came to the tomb bringing the spices which they had prepared. 2 But they found the stone rolled away from the tomb. 3 Then they went in and did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. 4 And it happened, as they were greatly perplexed about this, that behold, two men stood by them in shining garments. 5 Then, as they were afraid and bowed their faces to the earth, they said to them, "Why do you seek the living among the dead? 6 He is not here, but is risen! Remember how He spoke to you when He was still in Galilee, 7 saying, 'The Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.' " 8 And they remembered His words. 9 Then they returned from the tomb and told all these things to the eleven and to all the rest. 10 It was Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and the other women with them, who told these things to the apostles. 11 And their words seemed to them like idle tales, and they did not believe them.

  • They were Hopeless

John 20:19-20 NKJV Then, the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in the midst, and said to them, "Peace be with you." 20 When He had said this, He showed them His hands and His side. Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord.

STEP 3 - Develop a new religion that would face instant criticism and resistance.

"What motive did the Jewish New Testament writers have to make up a new religion? They already thought they were God's chosen people, and they were persecuted for saying the Resurrection occurred?" —Dr. Frank Turek

So how are we to explain the phenomenal growth of the early church?

There is no reasonable explanation that doesn't include something supernatural!

The Resurrection is a Promise Made and Kept by Jesus Christ!

Luke 24:46-47 NKJV Then He said to them, "Thus it is written, and thus it was necessary for the Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead the third day, 47 and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

Jesus is the only One who keeps promises perfectly!

What are the most commonly broken promises?

The ones we make to God.

Too many of us base our relationship with God on our performance instead of His promises!

Our personal confession, as a Christian, is tied to the Resurrection.

Romans 10:9-13 NKJV that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11 For the Scripture says, "Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame." 12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him. 13 For "whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved."
