Sermon Outline

⇒ God used words to create.

Psalm 33:6 NKJVBy the word of the Lord the heavens were made, And all the host of them by the breath of His mouth.

⇒ God uses words to communicate.

John 1:1-3 NKJVIn the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.

Things Jesus never heard:

  1. What's the matter Jesus... cat got your tongue?
  2. Ha! I won that argument.
  3. If or when you think of a good answer, you can get back with me.

An example to help us realize the power of our words can be found using the book "Mein Kampf" by Adolf Hitler. Every word in that book represents 125 people who died during World War II.

Our words tell a lot about our...

1. Sincerity

Proverbs 4:24 NKJVPut away from you a deceitful mouth, And put perverse lips far from you.

2. Security

Proverbs 18:13 NKJVHe who answers a matter before he hears it, It is folly and shame to him.

Proverbs 29:20 NKJVDo you see a man hasty in his words? There is more hope for a fool than for him.

To belittle =
To be little

No matter how far off you feel someone is who criticizes you, there there is probably a nugget of truth in it. Find it or pride wins!

3. Sensitivity

Proverbs 11:9 NKJVThe hypocrite with his mouth destroys his neighbor, But through knowledge the righteous will be delivered.

Proverbs 20:19 NKJVHe who goes about as a talebearer reveals secrets; Therefore do not associate with one who flatters with his lips.

Five Types of Gossips:

  • The Spy (Using secret against others)
  • The Grumbler (Complaining about people behind their backs)
  • The Backstabber (Using what they know to hurt others/destroy others)
  • The Chameleon (Joining in the gossip to gain acceptance)
  • The Busybody (Leaning in to hear/learn juicy details about the private affairs of others)

Those who gossip to you probably gossip about you.

James 1:26 NKJVIf anyone among you thinks he is religious, and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this one's religion is useless.

Are your words promoting or damaging the cause of Christ?

4. Soul

2 Timothy 1:7 NKJVFor God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

It Is Well with My Soul

VERSE 1: When peace like a river, attendeth my way,
When sorrows like sea billows roll
Whatever my lot, thou hast taught me to say
It is well, it is well, with my soul

VERSE 3: My sin, oh, the bliss of this glorious thought
My sin, not in part but the whole,
Is nailed to the cross, and I bear it no more,
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, o my soul

CHORUS: It is well
With my soul
It is well, it is well with my soul

One of our most underrated gifts are WORDS!
