“Jesus Is God”
- Jesus is the most revered and hated person in human history.
- Jesus is the most important person in human history.
If His claims are true, those who are aligned for or against Him will remain so for all of eternity. Christians will enjoy eternal bliss, while non-Christians will endure eternal damnation.
John 5:24 NKJV "Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life. John 5:28-29 NKJV Do not marvel at this; for the hour is coming in which all who are in the graves will hear His voice 29 and come forth—those who have done good, to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of condemnation.
- Jesus divides people because of what He said, not merely what He did.
Christians use the term Hypostatic Union to describe the unique, dual nature of Jesus Christ.
The Chalcedonian Definition from AD 451, describes the dual nature of Jesus as "without confusion, without change, without division, without separation".
- Without confusion – Jesus is not what you get when you mix God and man, not like mixing two colors and getting a new one.
- Without change – Jesus did not cease to be God. He simply added to His deity, humanity.
- Without division – Jesus is not bi-polar. Sometimes God, sometimes man or part God and part man.
- Without separation – Jesus is a real person and God. His two natures are undivided in one Divine person.
⇒ We cannot rightly say we know God the Father without knowing and acknowledging God the Son.
John 8:13-19 NKJV The Pharisees therefore said to Him, "You bear witness of Yourself; Your witness is not true." 14 Jesus answered and said to them, "Even if I bear witness of Myself, My witness is true, for I know where I came from and where I am going; but you do not know where I come from and where I am going. 15 You judge according to the flesh; I judge no one. 16 And yet if I do judge, My judgment is true; for I am not alone, but I am with the Father who sent Me. 17 It is also written in your law that the testimony of two men is true. 18 I am One who bears witness of Myself, and the Father who sent Me bears witness of Me." 19 Then they said to Him, "Where is Your Father?"Jesus answered, "You know neither Me nor My Father. If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also." John 14:7-9 NKJV "If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also; and from now on you know Him and have seen Him." 8 Philip said to Him, "Lord, show us the Father, and it is sufficient for us." 9 Jesus said to him, "Have I been with you so long, and yet you have not known Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; so how can you say, 'Show us the Father'?
⇒ We cannot lay claim to eternal life without knowing and acknowledging the Father and the Son.
John 5:36-40 NKJV But I have a greater witness than John's; for the works which the Father has given Me to finish—the very works that I do—bear witness of Me, that the Father has sent Me. 37 And the Father Himself, who sent Me, has testified of Me. You have neither heard His voice at any time, nor seen His form. 38 But you do not have His word abiding in you, because whom He sent, Him you do not believe. 39 You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me. 40 But you are not willing to come to Me that you may have life.
1 John 2:18-25 NKJV Little children, it is the last hour; and as you have heard that the Antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have come, by which we know that it is the last hour. 19 They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have continued with us; but they went out that they might be made manifest, that none of them were of us. 20 But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you know all things. 21 I have not written to you because you do not know the truth, but because you know it, and that no lie is of the truth. 22 Who is a liar but he who denies that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist who denies the Father and the Son. 23 Whoever denies the Son does not have the Father either; he who acknowledges the Son has the Father also. 24 Therefore let that abide in you which you heard from the beginning. If what you heard from the beginning abides in you, you also will abide in the Son and in the Father. 25 And this is the promise that He has promised us—eternal life.
