“Evidence That Demands a Verdict”
1 John 5:6-13 NKJV This is He who came by water and blood—Jesus Christ; not only by water, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit who bears witness, because the Spirit is truth. 7 For there are three that bear witness in heaven: the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit; and these three are one. 8 And there are three that bear witness on earth: the Spirit, the water, and the blood; and these three agree as one. 9 If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater; for this is the witness of God which He has testified of His Son. 10 He who believes in the Son of God has the witness in himself; he who does not believe God has made Him a liar, because he has not believed the testimony that God has given of His Son. 11 And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. 12 He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. 13 These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God.
John points to three "witnesses" that provide ample evidence to support the claims of Christianity.
They are the eyewitnesses, the internal witness, and the eternal witness.
In this study, we will examine the "eternal" witness.
1. It is a written record.
1 John 5:11 NKJV And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son.
It is not a matter of speculation, but rather revelation.
2. It is a descriptive record.
1 John 5:12 NKJV He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.
It declares who is and is not saved.
3. It is a valid record.
1 John 5:13 NKJV These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God.
It is trustworthy because HE is!
The Word we stand on is…
Psalm 119:89 NKJV Forever, O Lord, Your word is settled in heaven.
2 Timothy 2:9 NKJV for which I suffer trouble as an evildoer, even to the point of chains; but the word of God is not chained.
Titus 1:1-3 NKJV Paul, a bondservant of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of God's elect and the acknowledgment of the truth which accords with godliness, 2 in hope of eternal life which God, who cannot lie, promised before time began, 3 but has in due time manifested His word through preaching, which was committed to me according to the commandment of God our Savior;
The Word of God is the most important thing we can give others!
God Himself is the Eternal witness that shines a beacon of light that lifts the darkness and removes our doubt!
