Sermon Outline

2 John 1:9-13 NKJV Whoever transgresses and does not abide in the doctrine of Christ does not have God. He who abides in the doctrine of Christ has both the Father and the Son. 10 If anyone comes to you and does not bring this doctrine, do not receive him into your house nor greet him; 11 for he who greets him shares in his evil deeds. 12 Having many things to write to you, I did not wish to do so with paper and ink; but I hope to come to you and speak face to face, that our joy may be full. 13 The children of your elect sister greet you. Amen.

Why does it matter what a person believes? Isn't sincerity an admirable quality?

No, not if it means you sincerely believe something that will result in a Christ-less eternity in hell!

Cult Defined =

  1. A semi-religious or religious group that is controlled by one or more persons. Allegiance to the leader(s) is compulsory. Non-compliance often results in severe consequences or punishment.
  2. Any group that parts ways with traditional Christian orthodoxy. Specifically, cults deviate from core doctrines surrounding the person and work of Jesus Christ.

A Dogmatic Declaration

2 John 1:9 NKJV Whoever transgresses and does not abide in the doctrine of Christ does not have God. He who abides in the doctrine of Christ has both the Father and the Son.

Three Important Truths About Christ:

1. His Eternality

• He is Creator, and was not created.

2. His Superiority

• He is not simply a way to God, He is the way to God.

3. His Advocacy

• He alone can bring us into a right relationship with God and grant us access to God.

1 John 2:1-2 NKJV My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. 2 And He Himself is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the whole world.

Luke 11:27-28 NKJV And it happened, as He spoke these things, that a certain woman from the crowd raised her voice and said to Him, "Blessed is the womb that bore You, and the breasts which nursed You!" 28 But He said, "More than that, blessed are those who hear the word of God and keep it!"

1 Timothy 2:1-5 NKJV Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, 2 for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence. 3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, 4 who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. 5 For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus,
