What news is share worthy?

Although encounters with others are exciting, an encounter with Jesus and His gospel is life changing!

The greatest "share worthy" news is the gospel!

1 Corinthians 15:1-4 NKJVMoreover, brethren, I declare to you the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received and in which you stand, 2 by which also you are saved, if you hold fast that word which I preached to you—unless you believed in vain. 3 For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4 and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures,

The Gospel is good news because...

1. Its source is good.

Romans 1:16 NKJVFor I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek.

The Gospel is good news because...

2. Its content is good.

Romans 1:16 NKJVFor I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek.

The Gospel is good news because...

3. Its outcome is good.

Romans 1:16-19 NKJVFor I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek. 17 For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, "The just shall live by faith." 18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, 19 because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them.

Why do we stop proclaiming such "share-worthy" news?

A— Sin, which leaves us neglectful, forgetful, and ungrateful.

Gratitude =
thankfulness that is felt and expressed for what is received or alleviated

We quit telling people about Jesus when we stop being grateful for Jesus.

1. Restored usefulness to God involves confession.

Psalm 51:1-11 NKJVHave mercy upon me, O God, According to Your lovingkindness;According to the multitude of Your tender mercies, Blot out my transgressions. 2 Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, And cleanse me from my sin. 3 For I acknowledge my transgressions, And my sin is always before me. 4 Against You, You only, have I sinned, And done this evil in Your sight—That You may be found just when You speak, And blameless when You judge. 5 Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, And in sin my mother conceived me. 6 Behold, You desire truth in the inward parts, And in the hidden part You will make me to know wisdom. 7 Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; Wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. 8 Make me hear joy and gladness, That the bones You have broken may rejoice. 9 Hide Your face from my sins, And blot out all my iniquities. 10 Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me. 11 Do not cast me away from Your presence, And do not take Your Holy Spirit from me.

2. Restored usefulness to God involves compassion.

Psalm 51:12-13 NKJVRestore to me the joy of Your salvation, And uphold me by Your generous Spirit. 13 Then I will teach transgressors Your ways, And sinners shall be converted to You.

  • David not only felt thankful for God's salvation, but he expressed it to God & Others.
  • David knew that restoration included a fresh awareness of the work of the Holy Spirit in and through him.
  • David, even though a king, knew he was responsible for sharing the good news.

Who needs to hear the most "share worthy" news FROM YOU?

Discussion Questions

Questions For Kids

  1. Have you ever met a famous or important person? If yes, who did you want to tell about it first?
  2. What makes news good or bad?
  3. Why do we like sharing good news, but not bad news?
  4. Why is news about Jesus dying and rising from death the best news ever?

Questions For Adults

  1. What is the most sharing worthy news, besides the gospel, you've had the privilege of telling others?
  2. Thinking back to your earliest days as a Christian, who did you want to tell about your salvation first? What response did you get?
  3. In what specific ways have you seen sin hinder your desire/efforts to tell others about Jesus?
  4. Why is being in fellowship with God so important IF we want to be an effective witness for Jesus?
  5. Sometimes we put off sharing because we feel we don't know enough. Read the story of the man Jesus healed in Mark 5:1-20. Every believer ALREADY has the one thing (see verses 19-20) that Jesus can/will use. What is it? How can you summarize it in a "shareable" way with others?
