“The Will of God”
Ephesians 1:1-3 NKJV Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, To the saints who are in Ephesus, and faithful in Christ Jesus: 2 Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. 3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ,
Knowing God has a will for our lives and then diligent discovery and pursuit of it are hallmarks of fruitful Christians.
Unlike most of us, Paul became a Christian and aware of God's Master Plan almost simultaneously.
- God has a general will that applies equally to us all.
- God has a specific will that is tailored and designed for us.
Discovering God's will includes…
- Realizing He has one for us.
- Having a proper attitude towards finding it.
- Surrendering to what He's already revealed.
- Making it a matter of constant prayer.
- Looking to His revealed Word.
- Delighting in Him through the process.
Two points worth noting:
1. Believers can take heart knowing that even Paul struggled at times to know the details.
Romans 1:8-15 NKJV First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for you all, that your faith is spoken of throughout the whole world. 9 For God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of His Son, that without ceasing I make mention of you always in my prayers, 10 making request if, by some means, now at last I may find a way in the will of God to come to you. 11 For I long to see you, that I may impart to you some spiritual gift, so that you may be established— 12 that is, that I may be encouraged together with you by the mutual faith both of you and me. 13 Now I do not want you to be unaware, brethren, that I often planned to come to you (but was hindered until now), that I might have some fruit among you also, just as among the other Gentiles. 14 I am a debtor both to Greeks and to barbarians, both to wise and to unwise. 15 So, as much as is in me, I am ready to preach the gospel to you who are in Rome also.
2. Pursuit of it is an act of worship and glorifies God.
Colossians 1:9-12 NKJV For this reason we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; 10 that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; 11 strengthened with all might, according to His glorious power, for all patience and longsuffering with joy; 12 giving thanks to the Father who has qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in the light.
"The more our hearts choose to obey, the clearer thus becomes His way."
