Most people believe that Jesus is, at the very least, someone who should be respected.
How does Jesus want us to view Him?
A— Through the lens of the Holy Scriptures.
The scriptures describe Jesus as One who…
1. Creates & Sustains.
John 1:1-3 NKJV In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.John 17:5 NKJV And now, O Father, glorify Me together with Yourself, with the glory which I had with You before the world was.
Colossians 1:15-17 NKJV He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16 For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. 17 And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist.
2. Heals & Forgives.
Matthew 9:2-8 NKJV Then behold, they brought to Him a paralytic lying on a bed. When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the paralytic, ″Son, be of good cheer; your sins are forgiven you.″ 3 And at once some of the scribes said within themselves, ″This Man blasphemes!″ 4 But Jesus, knowing their thoughts, said, ″Why do you think evil in your hearts? 5 For which is easier, to say, ′Your sins are forgiven you,′ or to say, ′Arise and walk′? 6 But that you may know that the Son of Man has power on earth to forgive sins″—then He said to the paralytic, ″Arise, take up your bed, and go to your house.″ 7 And he arose and departed to his house. 8 Now when the multitudes saw it, they marveled and glorified God, who had given such power to men.
3. Confesses & Proclaims.
Mark 14:60-64 NKJV And the high priest stood up in the midst and asked Jesus, saying, ″Do You answer nothing? What is it these men testify against You?″ 61 But He kept silent and answered nothing. Again the high priest asked Him, saying to Him, ″Are You the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?″ 62 Jesus said, ″I am. And you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Power, and coming with the clouds of heaven.″ 63 Then the high priest tore his clothes and said, ″What further need do we have of witnesses? 64 You have heard the blasphemy! What do you think?″ And they all condemned Him to be deserving of death.
4. Intercedes & Judges.
John 5:24-29, 37-40 NKJV ″Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life. 25 Most assuredly, I say to you, the hour is coming, and now is, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God; and those who hear will live. 26 For as the Father has life in Himself, so He has granted the Son to have life in Himself, 27 and has given Him authority to execute judgment also, because He is the Son of Man. 28 Do not marvel at this; for the hour is coming in which all who are in the graves will hear His voice 29 and come forth—those who have done good, to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of condemnation. 37 And the Father Himself, who sent Me, has testified of Me. You have neither heard His voice at any time, nor seen His form. 38 But you do not have His word abiding in you, because whom He sent, Him you do not believe. 39 You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me. 40 But you are not willing to come to Me that you may have life.
″You can shut Him up for a fool, you can spit at Him and kill Him as a demon, or you can fall at His feet and call Him Lord and God. But let us not come up with any patronizing nonsense about his being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us. He did not intend to.″—C.S. Lewis
No one could be as good as Jesus without being God. Therefore, Jesus Christ is not simply someone we respect, He is also someone we should worship!
