“The Salt of the Earth Pt. 2”

Sermon Outline

Salt has three distinct purposes:
  • It enhances. (It makes things better.)
  • It preserves. (It keeps things from decaying.)
  • It purifies. (It restores things to usefulness.)

The church cannot do something and hope God blesses it. It must be something so God can bless it.

The permanent quality of salt indicates the eternality of the relationship between the Lord and His people.

How do we become the salt of the earth?

1. By accepting the offering of God.
(John 11:45-52 & 2 Corinthians 5:17-21)

How do we become the salt of the earth?
1. By accepting the offering of God.
2. By acknowledging Jesus Christ is Lord.

Acts 2:29-42 NKJV ″Men and brethren, let me speak freely to you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his tomb is with us to this day. 30 Therefore, being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him that of the fruit of his body, according to the flesh, He would raise up the Christ to sit on his throne, 31 he, foreseeing this, spoke concerning the resurrection of the Christ, that His soul was not left in Hades, nor did His flesh see corruption. 32 This Jesus God has raised up, of which we are all witnesses. 33 Therefore being exalted to the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, He poured out this which you now see and hear. 34 ″For David did not ascend into the heavens, but he says himself: ′The Lord said to my Lord, ″Sit at My right hand, 35 Till I make Your enemies Your footstool.″ ′ 36 ″Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly that God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ.″ 37 Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, ″Men and brethren, what shall we do?″ 38 Then Peter said to them, ″Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call.″ 40 And with many other words he testified and exhorted them, saying, ″Be saved from this perverse generation.″ 41 Then those who gladly received his word were baptized; and that day about three thousand souls were added to them. 42 And they continued steadfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers.Acts 3:18-21, 26 NKJV But those things which God foretold by the mouth of all His prophets, that the Christ would suffer, He has thus fulfilled. 19 Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord, 20 and that He may send Jesus Christ, who was preached to you before, 21 whom heaven must receive until the times of restoration of all things, which God has spoken by the mouth of all His holy prophets since the world began.26 To you first, God, having raised up His Servant Jesus, sent Him to bless you, in turning away every one of you from your iniquities.″Acts 4:8-12 NKJV Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, ″Rulers of the people and elders of Israel: 9 If we this day are judged for a good deed done to a helpless man, by what means he has been made well, 10 let it be known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, by Him this man stands here before you whole. 11 This is the ′stone which was rejected by you builders, which has become the chief cornerstone.′ 12 Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.″Acts 16:28-33 NKJV But Paul called with a loud voice, saying, ″Do yourself no harm, for we are all here.″ 29 Then he called for a light, ran in, and fell down trembling before Paul and Silas. 30 And he brought them out and said, ″Sirs, what must I do to be saved?″ 31 So they said, ″Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.″ 32 Then they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all who were in his house. 33 And he took them the same hour of the night and washed their stripes. And immediately he and all his family were baptized.

1 Corinthians 6:9-11 NKJV Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, 10 nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God.

In Conclusion:
When we are converted, we don't simply have a ″change of heart″, we receive a new heart!
We can expect converted people to continually turn from sin and toward the Savior!
The only useful Christians are salty ones!

Question to Ponder:
If someone followed you around for the next seven days, would they confirm the genuineness of your faith or label you a fraud?
