“The Big Picture”

Sermon Outline

Perspective =the capacity to view things in their true relations or relative importance

Our perspective impacts both our mood (how we feel) and our motivation (what we do).

We can take our queues from one of three perspectives:
  • The Temporal.
  • The Discernible.
  • The Eternal.

Only Christians can possess an eternal perspective.

1 Corinthians 2:9-12 NKJV But as it is written: ″Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, Nor have entered into the heart of man The things which God has prepared for those who love Him.″ 10 But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God. 11 For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God. 12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God.

The Christian's eternal perspective is shaped by…
1. Jesus' bodily resurrection.

1 Peter 1:1-3 NKJV Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, To the pilgrims of the Dispersion in Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia, 2 elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, in sanctification of the Spirit, for obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace to you and peace be multiplied. 3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,

2. Their unchangeable reservation.

1 Peter 1:4 NKJV to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you,

3. Their assured preservation.

1 Peter 1:5-7 NKJV who are kept by the power of God through faith for salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. 6 In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been grieved by various trials, 7 that the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ,

4. Jesus' pending revelation.

1 Peter 1:7-8 NKJV that the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ, 8 whom having not seen you love. Though now you do not see Him, yet believing, you rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory,

5. Their complete salvation.

1 Peter 1:9 NKJV receiving the end of your faith—the salvation of your souls.

6. Their desired maturation.

1 Peter 1:13-16 NKJV Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and rest your hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ; 14 as obedient children, not conforming yourselves to the former lusts, as in your ignorance; 15 but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, 16 because it is written, ″Be holy, for I am holy.″

An eternal perspective impacts those who possess it and inspires those who observe it!
