<< Names of God Review >>

  1. Elohim, translated God, is the Creator and Covenant Keeper.
  2. Adonai, translated Lord, is the One who Cares and Commissions.
  3. El-Shaddai, translated God Almighty, is the One who makes us Fruitful and Blesses us.
  4. Yahweh/Jehovah, translated LORD, is the eternal One who is righteous and redeems.

Jeremiah 9:23-24 NKJVThus says the Lord: "Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, Let not the mighty man glory in his might, Nor let the rich man glory in his riches; 24 But let him who glories glory in this, That he understands and knows Me, That I am the Lord, exercising lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness in the earth. For in these I delight," says the Lord.

General Info:

  • Jehovah is a combination of the vowels of Adonai and the consonants YHWH
  • Several compound forms of Jehovah are found in the Old Testament
  • Each compound word describes a blessing Jehovah's followers receive from Him
  • Rapha (raw-faw) appears over 60 times in the O.T.
  • Jehovah-Rapha is the one who heals, cures, and restores us in numerous ways.

Why is there sickness and suffering in the world?

The Fall. Apart from the fall/sin there is no conceivable explanation, with it there is a complex one.

If God is so good, why doesn't He heal people?

He has, He does, and He will!

1. God heals us physically.

Exodus 15:22-26 NKJVSo Moses brought Israel from the Red Sea; then they went out into the Wilderness of Shur. And they went three days in the wilderness and found no water. 23 Now when they came to Marah, they could not drink the waters of Marah, for they were bitter. Therefore the name of it was called Marah. 24 And the people complained against Moses, saying, "What shall we drink?" 25 So he cried out to the Lord, and the Lord showed him a tree. When he cast it into the waters, the waters were made sweet. There He made a statute and an ordinance for them, and there He tested them, 26 and said, "If you diligently heed the voice of the Lord your God and do what is right in His sight, give ear to His commandments and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you which I have brought on the Egyptians. For I am the Lord who heals you."

1 Timothy 5:23 NKJVNo longer drink only water, but use a little wine for your stomach's sake and your frequent infirmities.

  • Sometimes preventively

1 Timothy 4:8 NKJVFor bodily exercise profits a little, but godliness is profitable for all things, having promise of the life that now is and of that which is to come.

2. God heals us emotionally.

This includes…

  • Heart & mind trauma

Psalms 147:3 NKJVHe heals the brokenhearted And binds up their wounds.

  • Self-inflicted trauma

Psalm 51:12-17 NKJVRestore to me the joy of Your salvation, And uphold me by Your generous Spirit. 13 Then I will teach transgressors Your ways, And sinners shall be converted to You. 14 Deliver me from the guilt of bloodshed, O God, The God of my salvation, And my tongue shall sing aloud of Your righteousness. 15 O Lord, open my lips, And my mouth shall show forth Your praise. 16 For You do not desire sacrifice, or else I would give it; You do not delight in burnt offering. 17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit, A broken and a contrite heart—These, O God, You will not despise.
